Character Design

My hedgerow characters were to be a crow, snail and mouse. Each with characterisitcs reflecting the animal. The crow would be slightly snooty, the mouse jumpy and the snail slow. I wanted to limit the detail as much as possible to make animating them easier, to the point where hopefully I’d only need to wiggle some eyes and ears, maybe give the lines a bit of boil.

Early animation tests were frustrating. I was keen to implement some of the new things I’d learn’t in After Effects, but felt like it was just sucking the life out of the style. The second test using cel animation did far more justice to Crow, although the amount of work involved in using this style was starting to show itself.
